Hee hee...

Last time "The Phantom" was going to come go on a kayak patrol, he forgot to bring shorts; Kayaking in wet jeans is no fun at all, so this morning I sent him a reminder email.

"Don't forget your shorts - Which is always good advice." ;)

Last night was pretty cool. I went (with Molly in tow) to the Multi-Faith roundtable meeting. I was asked to represent the earth based faiths. Our goal is to foster interfaith dialog and understanding, host study groups and to hold a truly multi-religious (the new preferred term to multi-faith) Thanksgiving service. This time, we're making sure that it's a true multi-religious experience, not just a protestant service with a few "guest speakers". We've got some great examples of events that really worked in other areas to follow that included dance, singing, chanting, meditation and other rituals. I am really excited about this. It was so much fun to sit in a room (in a Christian Science Church) and have open, non-judgmental dialog about what we share in common. It's more than most of us give each other credit for.

I finally got the meet the "infamous" Roger who was leaving UUAT after a long term stint as minister, just as I was arriving in Tacoma. He is still the person that every minister serving that church will be held up to in comparison (not an enviable position, let me tell you) He is also the minister who performed Molly and Charlie's wedding 16 years ago. They're going for a "re-do" in 4 years. He sent me email with some more questions about Gaia's Grove and some samples of his writing. I think we're going to be good friends he and I... Of course, it's obvious that any meeting we both attend will involve a LOT of laughing and serious irreverence.

Molly and I went back to my place to practice some music and drink some cheap champagne. I got tired of butchering "King of the Faeries" on my fiddle, so I pulled the guitar off the wall and practiced some DADGAD chords. I really think playing DADGAD is going to be much better for me than standard tuning. Molly loved the way the modal "D" chord sounded with her harp.

Once I get back to work (rather than updating my journal), I've got logs, reports, etc... to take care of, then head out to the park at lunch for some fiddle practice in the sun and then "The Phantom" and I are going to go do a kayak patrol and go play with the seals. After that, I'm making my infamous "whole wheat turkey tacos" which if I do say so myself are quite good. I lightly fry whole wheat tortillas, stuff them with spicy ground turkey meat, use broccoli sprouts instead of lettuce and add tomato, avocado and sharp cheese. Dang... I'm hungry just thinking about it. Afterwards, I absolutely must watch "A Midsummer Night's Dream" as I use it for inspiration for our Midsummer celebration every year.

Tomorrow, I'm going to help Molly go get a yard of sand for her yard (I'm the "friend with a truck"), try to fit in a run, go play music on the waterfront, and then find something fun to do in the evening. I haven't gone out for a while. Maybe I'll do that...

Sunday, Michaelene and I are heading up to Seattle for the "Great Kilted Run" as part of the Celtic Heritage Festival. We have band practice tomorrow, but I'm not going to be able to make it for more than about 1/2 hour because of my speaking engagement at King's Books (shameless promotion to follow). We're going to take our new band picture (we've had people come and go and Michelle wasn't there for the first one) before I head out for that. The gazebo at the arboretum is beautiful and there is a huge pink rhododendron bush right behind it in full bloom, the whole thing will also be beautifully back lit.

So here's the official announcement for the speaking engagement...

Please forward to anyone you think might be interested

"State Rep. Jeannie Darneille (D-Tacoma) and Tacoma City Councilwoman
Julie Anderson will be among the speakers Sunday at a forum to discuss
Moveon.org's book, "MoveOn's 50 Ways to Love Your Country."
The event also will feature Lisa Lawrence from Citizens for a Healthy
Bay discussing water quality issues in the South Sound, Alicia Lewis
from the Rainbow Center and State Senator Rosa Franklin speaking on
health issues. It will be held at 7 p.m. at King's Books, 218 St. Helens
Ave. in downtown Tacoma

and with that...

I need to get my butt back to work...
