I am a 40-something (OK, closer to 50 than 40) woman who tries to lead an interesting and productive life and to be a good friend. I spend most of my spare time hiking, backpacking, kayaking, running, swimming, cycling, playing tennis, volunteering, making music, paddling on my dragon boat team and enjoying the awesome Pacific Northwest with my friends.
I have a wide variety of interests and love to make friends from varying backgrounds and parts of the world who have lives different from mine as well as those with common interests. Our differences are what make us interesting and help us learn about others and the world around us. Oh, and I love shiny things! Oooh, Shiny!!!
I've been: a paramedic, federal law enforcement officer, park ranger, river guide, ski instructor, environmental educator, firefighter, Baykeeper, athlete, artist, (step) mother, lover and friend (let it suffice to say, that I’ve “lived life” and continue to do so)
I work for a great company with a sense of social, community, and environmental responsibility that I’m proud of and also work as a freelance writer and photographer in a regular feature of a regional lifestyle magazine. Recently I've been branching out with my writing and photography to other media and publications and am pleased that these passions have become a 2nd career.
I like to challenge myself. (disclaimer, just because I'm a bit nuts doesn't mean I expect you to be) I recently completed my first sprint distance triathlon and the STP (Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic). I am currently training for an ascent of Mt Rainier (it's my backyard) and a two week backcountry/off trail backpacking trip in the Grand Canyon. I am also re-learning how to play the violin/fiddle. (I learned as an adult, and a car accident that fractured my left shoulder and caused nerve damage (and allowing myself to become frustrated) kept me away from it for over four years. I'm reclaiming the music in my life!
My spiritual/religious leanings can best be described as “Unitarian Pagan with strong Buddhist leanings” I’ve never been big on labels or “organized” religion. I respect whatever religion you are (or aren't) and merely ask the same respect in return.
A Wild Rose is unique and unexpected.
*** note, I do not use LJ cuts, so if images (I keep them to a reasonable size for quick loading and to not break your friend's page format) bother you, you probably won't want to friend me. I won't likely click on your LJ cut because quite frankly, they annoy me and I don't have that much extra time on my hands.
I like seeing pictures and other fun things on my and other's LJs. I also crosspost to several different blog platforms and just don't have the want, need or desire to write the code three times in order to placate someone with control issues that insists on telling other people how to run their LJ.
But to each their own, and I won't tell you how to run your LJ if you will do me the same courtesy.
I am extremely busy and often read LJ on the fly. Just because I don't always have time to comment does not mean that I am not reading and/or don't care. If you need constant feedback and regularly post a request to get more comments or you'll unfriend people, I'm probably not the LJ friend you want. (I don't do the "pay attention to me or I'll have a tantrum, take my toys and go home" stuff)
If someone who is my friend (IRL or cyber) truly needs help and support, I am there for them. With that said, I don't do victims. If you aren't willing to make an effort to help yourself and just want to whine and have people say "poor baby", why should I or anyone else bother?
I will not bring drama to your LJ. If I see/read something I don't like, I will just not read/look at it rather than create an issue/fight out of it, and ask the same in return. If you ask for opinion or advice I will do it gently or send it back channel if I think it might create drama (there's enough naturally occurring drama in this life to be seeking it out don't you think?)
